Entry 1

I have always enjoyed learning and helping other people learn. I was home schooled through 8th grade and was able to help my three younger siblings with their school work once I had finnished my own. It was fun getting to help them learn to read and knowing that it was something they would use for the rest of their lives.

When I started going to high school, I had the oportunity to be a teachers assistant during my study hall. I also got a job as a tutor for a girl in 1st grade. I tutored her every day after school for 3 year. It was so exciting getting to see her grow in her knowlage and excitment about school. I saw her go from being a shy and uncertain student who did not like to read or write, to a confident 3rd grader who loved writng me stories and frequently got awards at school. The first day she ever told me she wanted to write me a story (with out me asking her to wright "just one more sentance")I was so surprised and proud of her. I thought "Wow! Now i know why people become teachers."

I would love to teach 3rd grade some day. I am getting an edorsment in science and think that it would also be fun to teach middle school science.

This semester, I want to learn to be more confident using technoloy so that I will be able to use it effectivly in teaching.

  1. Thanks for sharing your story. I love your story about the girl that you tutored -- what a great opportunity you had to see how providing a safe learning environment made it possible for her to step beyond what was confortable. Your passion for teaching and learning is obvious and you will have a great influence on the students that you teach.
